The Origins of Jazz

Where were you when you first realized that you loved jazz? Wherever and whenever your musical intrigue began, an appreciation of jazz ultimately draws one to New Orleans, the birthplace of this wholly American movement and home to jazz’s first ambassador, Louis Armstrong. As jazz took hold in New Orleans, Cajun, and Zydeco musical traditions burgeoned 90 miles westward in Lafayette, the capital of the Acadiana region. These musical forms, with their often-driving beats and unique instrumentation, cannot help but compel you to dance. Join us as we give ourselves over to the power of this music, altogether satisfying our senses by taking in concerts, the scenery, and the cuisine of these vivid regions of Louisiana.
